Stephen Wimbush (Edmonton, Alberta 1973-)
Stephen grew up with a passion for drawing and dreamed of one day becoming a comic book artist. In high school, he was absorbed by the works of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jean Michel Basquiat, and Pablo Picasso. These artists, as well as a new found passion for painting, lead him to choose a career in Visual Art. In 1998 Stephen enrolled in a visual arts program at Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton, Alberta. One year later, he moved to Vancouver British Columbia to attend Emily Carr University of Art and Design. He had three solo exhibitions before graduating with his bachelor’s degree in 2004. University served to expand his influences to include Kurt Schwitters, Sigmar Polke and Jessica Stockholder. Since graduation, Stephen has continued to exhibit his work frequently, and finds inspiration from street artists, most notably Faile, Broken Fingers, Bast, Jose Parla, Os Gemos and D*Face.
Stephen is an avid skateboarder, surfer, hockey fan, and golfer. He still loves reading comic books.
